ich habe eben in der Tonart auf Deutschlandradio Kultur einen Beitrag über die National Recording Preservation Foudation gehört. Diese Organisation hat sich, grob formuliert, das Ziel gesetzt, Tondokumente für die Nachwelt zu bewahren. Das Ganze geht auf eine Initiative des des US-Kongresses aus dem Jahr 2000 zurück.

The National Recording Preservation Foundation is mandated by an act of Congress to help find, preserve and make accessible the recorded history of the United States.

The National Recording Preservation Foundation is an independent, non-profit charitable corporation established by the U.S. Congress for the purpose of supporting archives, libraries, cultural institutions and others committed to preserving America’s radio, music and recorded sound heritage.

Recorded sound heritage - eine bemerkenswerte Formulierung. Dass es ein nationales akustisches Kulturerbe (sehr frei übersetzt) gibt, das es wert ist, aufbewahrt zu werden, hat sich möglicherweise noch nicht überall herumgesprochen.

Am Rande: Jack White hat der Foundation 200000 $ rübergereicht. Jack White ist der Typ, der Neil Young die schlecht belüftete Telefonzelle (Voice-O-Graph oder weiß der Geier, wie das Ding heißt) geborgt hat, mit der dann der Maestro sein Album A Letter Home aufgenommen hat.

Archivierung alter analoger Tondukumente, da wird man um digitale Formate kaum herumkommen. Letztlich ist das ja auch Thema hier im Forum, nur dass hier wesentlich kleinere Brötchen gebacken werden.
